October 7 was a prison break, an attempt to break the brutal 17-year siege of Gaza, a moment of reclamation of land that is rightfully the Palestinians. Israel has for 76 years attempted to break the Palestinian will but has never succeeded despite unimaginable brutality. The heroic and steadfast resistance of the Palestinian people has continued to inspire people all over the world. The consciousness of millions of people has shifted and the dominant Israeli narrative has been shattered.

A year later, conservative estimates put the death toll in this genocide at 41,000 people - with thousands more trapped under the rubble and others dying from disease and hunger - we know the true toll of this genocide is much higher. Despite this, the will of the Palestinian people has remained unshakeable, the Palestinians remain planted in their land and the idea of a liberated Palestine remains a reality for Palestinians whether in historic Palestine or in the diaspora.

Through their heroic struggle, the Palestinians have taught us the concept of a martyr and brought it into the popular vernacular. Our martyrs are those whose lives have been taken from us in this struggle against our brutal oppressors. We say glory to all our martyrs, from Refaat Alareer to Marcellus Williams, Sonya Massey to Hind Rajeb! We will always carry you with us, we will never forget you and we will never stop struggling against your murderers. Glory to all our martyrs, we will continue to fight this brutal system that murders our people here in the United States, in Palestine and all around the world. We must not give in to cynicism and despair, we must continue to fight!
