For the first few months of Operation Midway Blitz, protesters at the Broadview ICE facility were regularly pepper balled and gassed by the federal employees who worked there. But starting October 1, those activists stopped dealing with the feds and started facing the Illinois State Police and Cook County Sheriffs Department. JB Pritzker claimed he sent them there to protect the protesters. But the ISP and CCSD routinely beat and arrested them, often for infractions as small as protesting on the wrong side of the street. They even used the same chemical munitions the troopers were sent there to prevent ICE from getting in the air. They did all this while making sure that ICE could carry out there business uninterrupted. Operation Midway Blitz was way more effective in October than it was in August or September. Clearly, the CCSD and ISP weren't protecting the protesters; they were protecting ICE.
JB Pritzker has been made aware of this by the National Lawyers Guild, aldermen, several local independent media outlets, and his constituents. Not only has he never publicly been to the Broadview ICE facility, he has actively avoided any questions about the ISP and CCSD's continued presence there.
Enough is enough. Pritzker needs to answer for the situation he's created by publicly encouraging people to protest and document ICE while privately sending in state troopers to make doing so as hard as possible. We're encouraging folks to come out to Broadview dressed as Waldo to show that even someone as elusive as him has still shown up. Come in your best red and white shirt, hear speakers share their harrowing experiences dealing with state and county troopers, and ask the ever important question: Where's Pritzker?!
