Content: In the past weeks, we have witnessed the U.S.-Israeli war machine expand its use of genocidal methods against Lebanon and Palestinian refugee camps in the country. Right now, it is imperative for us to learn from the people of the region and deepen our solidarity with them. Join us for a screening and discussion of Dalia Al-Kury's documentary, Smile! You Are in South Lebanon (2008). In this moving film, Al-Kury visits her family's village, Bayut Al-Asyad, one year after Israel’s invasion of (and subsequent expulsion from) Lebanon in 2006. The film weaves together the personal histories of ordinary Lebanese and Palestinians who bravely defied Israeli occupation and tyranny against all odds. Through her lens, she masterfully captures the tragicomic essence of life in Lebanon and the weight of generational memories of Israeli occupation, war, imprisonment, and resistance. This event will be held on October 10, 2024, at Cobb Hall Room 307, from 4:00-5:30PM. At 4PM sharp we will have an introductory conversation with a student activist joining us live from Beirut, so show up a little early if you can! We will also be fundraising for Middle Eastern Children's Alliance.
