Content: Need a space to slow down and build community? ๐๐ณ๐ฐ๐ฎ ๐๐ฉ๐ช๐ค๐ข๐จ๐ฐ ๐ต๐ฐ ๐๐ต๐ญ๐ข๐ฏ๐ต๐ข: ๐๐ต๐ช๐ต๐ค๐ฉ๐ช๐ฏ๐จ ๐๐ข๐ฏ๐ฏ๐ฆ๐ณ๐ด ๐ฐ๐ง ๐๐ฆ๐ด๐ช๐ด๐ต๐ข๐ฏ๐ค๐ฆ invites us to sit side by side to stitch words in resistance to the violence inflicted on undocumented people in Chicago and Atlanta. Using needle and thread, we will participate in an act of collective care to create banners to be gifted to organizers in Chicago and Atlanta in support of their work. Textile banners are extra special because they can be easily unfurled, displayed in a range of settings, and folded up and stuffed in a bag in no time โ think of how useful this can be during a protest! The Atlanta banners will be exhibited at @thegoatfarm for ๐๐ฉ๐ช๐ด ๐๐ด ๐๐ฐ๐ธ (May 29-June 13), an exhibition organized and curated by @amylandesberg, @layla.amar.art, and @sophia.macmaster. After the show, they will be given to @elrefugiostewart and @shutdownfipc in support of their campaigns to shut down immigration detention in Georgia, the state with the 4th-highest number of ICE arrests in 2025 (Deportation Data Project). About the project: ๐๐ข๐ฏ๐ฏ๐ฆ๐ณ๐ด ๐ฐ๐ง ๐๐ฆ๐ด๐ช๐ด๐ต๐ข๐ฏ๐ค๐ฆ is a community-responsive textile banner project that centers a collective-making process through art builds and stitching circles. It was organized by DACAmented artist Yehimi Cambrรณn รlvarez @ycambron in October 2025 in response to the violence inflicted on neighborhoods across Chicago. Cambrรณn believes that stitching in groups has the power to strengthen community connections and offer a meditative space for healing, dialogue, and collectivity. All are welcome!
