The Victories and Contradictions of Revolution in Syria’s Northeast, 14 Years On

Posted by Andy1917

Content:

July 19 of this year marks the 14th anniversary of the radically democratic, socialist, and women-led revolution ongoing in Syria’s northeast. It is also the first anniversary to pass since the devastating events of January 2026, during which an American/Israeli-approved offensive by the post-Assad Syrian state captured 80% of the territory under autonomous self-adminstration—a clear attempt to defuse the revolutionary alternative in the northeast by reducing it to a Kurdish ethnic enclave. Join us for an evening with Faysal Khalaf, who will present a reportback from their political work in Syria’s northeast alongside a discussion of the contradictions/victories/possibilities of revolution in Syria, the Middle East, and the current global political landscape.

Faysal Khalaf is a Syrian-Pakistani organizer who has spent years doing political work in Syria’s autonomous northeast. They were present in the formerly autonomous regions of the Euphrates river basin during the last months of 2025, on the eve of the January 2026 offensive.
