America 250 Years Too Many

What to a student at the Minab girls' school is your fourth of July?

What to a 5 year old Palestinian murdered by Israel is your fourth of July?

What to a Lebanese victim of white phosphorus is your fourth of July?

What to a Colombian fisherman murdered by the US miltary is your fourth of July?

What to a immigrant being tortured in a detention center is your fourth of July?

What to the family of Silverio Villegas González, killed by ICE, is your fourth of July?

What to Timothy Glaze, gunned down by the Chicago pigs, is your fourth of July?

In 1852, Frederick Douglass asked a crowd, "What, to the American slave, is your 4th of July?" In his answer he exposed that, "There is not a nation on the earth guilty of practices, more shocking and bloody, than are the people of these United States, at this very hour."
As this blood-soaked empire limps along to its 250th birthday, these words still ring true. From Hiroshima to Vietnam, from the genocide in Gaza to the slow-motion genocide on Black people in Chicago, the ugly reality of US imperialism is murder, torture, and the brutal exploitation of human beings.
We say: 250 years is 250 too many. On July 4th, join Behind Enemy Lines and Dare to Struggle for a speakout in front of that barbarous monument to the empires cruelty: the Broadview processing center, to declare that our allegiance is to the people of the world and not the rulers of this American nightmare. Bring your love and rage, and a poem or message to share about why you won't celebrate this empire. Just no fucking American flags.

All empires fall. Sometimes they need a push.
