End ICE & CPD Collaboration Teach-In

Join CAARPR’s Immigrant Rights Working Committee (IRWC) for a Teach-IN on July 22nd at 7:30PM at Casa Michoacán for the fight to END ICE & CPD COLLABORATION and demand the CCPSA (Community Commission for Public Safety and Accountability) body uphold its purpose to hold police accountable and keep the public safe!

The IRWC was been continuing to show up to monthly CCPSA meetings for many months alongside community allies to ensure that CPD-ICE collaboration remains a priority and to continue to push for progress on investigations.

In the past, we have witnessed Larry Snelling dodge the public and the CCPSA stall progress on addressing CPD’s failures. The community has expressed consistent outrage at the way CPD have aided and abetted ICE in violation of Chicago’s Welcoming City’s Ordinance, but the Commission has limited community participation, did not ask many of the questions the public submitted to be asked to Snelling, and continues to ignore demands of the public.

With Snelling’s recently announced retirement, we are prepared to continue our fight to assure that there is an end to the collaboration between ICE and CPD and that the CCPSA upholds the integrity of public safety. Although some members of the Commission want to hold Snelling and CPD accountable for their collaboration with ICE and for the racist history of police crimes against the Black community in Chicago, the CCPSA in its current form is not delivering on accountability. We’re gonna continue the fight to change that!
