Content: ๐The BMRC is looking for Chicagoans who remember the Dan Ryan Displaced.* ๐ซ๐ตWe are sponsoring two Memory Teas hosted by artist Candace Hunter (@chleeart ) on Saturday July 11th from 2-4PM and Saturday July 18th from 2-4PM. It is a time to make space for the living memories of the project that upended the lives of many Black residents in the 1950s. (Oral histories will be taken with those who give consent.) โ๏ธPlease let us know to expect you by completing the form linked from this page: ๐๐๐ * "Although the initial plans for the south side expressway that became the Dan Ryan would have cut through the Bridgeport neighborhood along Normal Avenue, in 1956 Mayor Richard J. Daley and the city council moved the route to Wentworth Avenue along the eastern edge of Armour Square and Fuller Park. The new route displaced residents and businesses in neighborhoods adjacent to the neighborhoods that had already been displaced by the new housing projects [Stateway Gardens and the Robert Taylor Homes]."
