Defending Black communities and organizations while working towards liberation is ongoing work that requires a multi-front strategy and an expansive toolkit. We know our liberation is carved out by the hyper-local day-to-day fights to build people power through organizing, and that lawyering can help shift the terrain and improve conditions under which we organize.⁠

On September 1, we're touching down in Chicago to convene legal workers, movement partners, and local organizers to examine the local organizing landscape and strategize on how we integrate our efforts to build people power together.⁠

We're excited to share that we'll be joined by our grounding partners, Assata's Daughters, BlackRoots Alliance, Southside Together, and Westside Justice Center, along with our supporting partners, First Defense Legal Aid and People's Law Office.⁠

About The Power Building Tour⁠

In response to this moment of rising authoritarianism and emboldened white supremacy, Law for Black Lives is embarking on a year-long, multi-city Power Building Tour. Throughout the tour, we'll convene movement lawyers, legal workers, organizers, and movement partners to connect, strategize, and collectively prepare for what comes next—and collaboratively determine how a movement lawyering ecosystem can best show up to support the work on the ground.⁠
