Last weekend, in the midst of Mexican Independence Day festivities, Little Village faced intense militarization and confrontation. Cops were posted up on street after street across the whole neighborhood, blocking people from getting home, controlling movement, and harassing community members. There was even a report of a 14 year old girl being arrested by CPD on the day of the parade. In recent years there has been a police crackdown on festivities traditional to the Mexican community in Chicago. The state and its onslaught of pig forces target Mexican and Latino working class neighborhoods to actively repress the people’s celebrations in what can only be described as a racist offense. How much money was spent on this state militarization? How much more money is being used for ICE/CPD collaboration, surveillance, harassment, and kidnappings? If the state doesn’t serve the interests of the people and the working class, whose interests does it serve?

Our community deserves better! Our demands are as follows:

- We demand an apology from the commander of the 10th district for the arrest of a 14 year old girl.

- We demand the public release of all body camera footage regarding any and all arrests or confrontations during the festivities.

- We demand an end to the harassment of our neighbors and the militarization of the community through:
*CPD thug harassment at our celebrations
*Predatory parking tickets and restrictions in
working class neighborhoods.
*Constant camera and drone surveillance of
our movements by ICE and CPD (including
new license plate readers installed in the
neighborhood!)
