We're teaming up with our friends at @counterpunch.media for a screening of “The Palestine Exception,” a short film by Al Jazeera English’s award-winning documentary program, @ajfaultlines. After the screening, the director, Amina Waheed, as well as Chicago-based journalist, Deanna Othman, and Pal Legal’s Rifqa Falaneh, will discuss how the repression of pro-Palestine speech plays out today, and what we can expect it to look like under the next administration.

Fault Lines’ team filmed at Columbia University where they interviewed students and faculty about the wave of suppression on freedom of speech in the wake of October 7th. Constitutional rights advocates have called this a McCarthy-era moment — when pro-Israel advocacy groups have intensified efforts to silence and intimidate pro-Palestine voices. University campuses are on the frontlines of these campaigns, which include doxxing, blacklists, terminations, death threats, and accusations of anti-Semitism and even material support for terrorism. And none of this is new. Through a case that pre-dated Oct. 7, Fault Lines also examines the long history of this repression.
