CALLING ALL SURVIVORS, FAMILY MEMBERS, AND SUPPORTERS. At this Monday's budget hearing, our struggle is on the agenda. Brandon Johnson's Fair Share Budget includes $480 million for settlements to survivors and family members affected by police crimes at the hands of CPD, and the corporate caucus wants to stop him. This includes $260 million in settlements to the survivors of infamous torture detective Reynaldo Guevara, cases that have long been fought out, involving families and survivors who have waited far too long for recompense they are owed.

The Johnson admin recognizes there is no reason to waste taxpayer dollars fighting these cases in court, and that the City must deal proactively with its legacy of racist policing.

We fight for community control of the police to end these patterns and practices once and for all, but can't allow the City to ignore that legacy in the meantime. Join us to stand with survivors and family members this Monday at City Hall!
